5 Makeup Looks To Boost Confidence

2020 is all about celebrating and empowering women, and one of the things that continue to empower us is makeup. Some people might argue that cosmetics tend to conceal and do not reveal the “real” you. However, just like how that extra inch a pair of heels adds confidence to your stride, or a new pair of pretty underwear can make you feel extra sexy, there is true power in a makeup look. It enhances your already amazing features and boosts self-esteem. The mental and emotional benefits are also undeniable. For some, it can also be a form of artistic expression, and gives women a venue to have control over their looks and create for themselves the looks that they want!

Procter & Gamble funded a study looking for the link between cosmetics and how women are perceived in the workplace. The study found that makeup can increase the perception of a woman’s trustworthiness and competence. Having a “power face” makes you feel more in control, ready for the tasks you need to do, and actually excited to face the faces and places you need to conquer that day. Here are some of the “Power Looks” that will have you feeling fab and confident all day (and night):

1. The Power Pout

Red represents confidence and passion. Some women avoid rocking red lips (or any bold lip color) because they don’t want to attract too much attention. There’s a bit of a chicken and egg conundrum here. It takes a truly confident woman to rock red lips, and red lips give women a confidence boost. Whichever comes first, a red pout (or any bold colored power pout, feel free to pick whichever color suits you) is meant to be desired and admired. And every woman deserves to be desired and admired.

2. The Power Liner

Cleopatra was known for her beauty, her influence over all of Egypt, her passionate love life, and her perfect eyeliner. Cleopatra was a truly powerful Queen, so this signature look has grown to be associated with power. It brings attention to one’s eyes and makes them look alive. When you barely have time to prep in the mornings, just draw on some eyeliner and it will instantly have a noticeably positive impact on your face. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, try drawing on some colored eyeliner. Bright blues or purples will definitely have people making eye contact as you strut by.

3. The Power Contour

Say what you want about the Kardashians, but these are women of power and massive media influence. They came, they saw, they contoured. Contouring takes a bit of practice and extra time spent on prepping, but once you get your contour skills leveled up, it will well be worth the time and effort. Contouring highlights the best angles of your face and can change your look in a huge way. It also makes people do a double take (in a good way!). You’ll totally have everyone’s full attention (and admiration) when giving that major presentation.

4. The Power Brows

Kilay is life. That’s just a fact of life. Eyebrows can make (or break) a face. Sounds harsh, but that’s just how it is. I was once asked if I was ill just because I didn’t have time to draw my eyebrows on. So imagine showing up to a pitch with perfect ooh la la brows, looking alive and fabulous. Knowing you look great will have you bursting with zest and bringing out the killer charm to win that pitch.

5. The Power Nude

Nothing spells confidence like a woman who bares it all– freckles, laugh lines, and everything. But of course, that doesn’t mean you have to really go out into the world with NOTHING on. This look can be achieved with a little help from cleverly placed bits of makeup. A dab of undereye concealer, some lip balm, and a swipe of mascara and you are ready for the world, girl! And if you absolutely do not want to have anything on, then please just put on some sunscreen. Your older self will be forever grateful.
